Jennifer Grear

Villainous CHP officer Jennifer Grear

Jennifer Grear (Sophina Brown) is a villainess from "Empty Quiver," episode 2.16 of NCIS:  Los Angeles (airdate February 15, 2011). She is a California Highway Patrol officer and the illicit lover of married fellow officer Paul Beane.

Grear and Beane also worked together to form the California Gold Taxi Service, which consisted of a group of corrupt CHP officers who would give safe passage to criminals and smugglers in exchange for payment. Grear used Beane's knowledge to help him form the service, doing so to help her mother, who was suffering from Alzheimer's, as well as to pay to keep her mother's house. Her role was revealed after Beane was found shot and killed in the beginning of the episode, with NCIS believing that Grear may have been behind the murder. However, when Grisha Callen and Sam Hanna arrived at the home of Grear's mother in Van Nuys, they found that Grear was being shot at by henchmen sent by the true mastermind of Beane's murder, Steve Brenner.

Grear was later taken to NCIS headquarters, where she confessed to her role in creating the service, and also where Hanna revealed Grear's illicit affair with Beane. She was revealed not to have killed Beane, and she worked with Hanna and Callen to help catch Brenner, while stating she regretted her actions. After a physicist was abducted by Brenner's henchmen, Grear identified her as having approached Beane for a Taxi deal, which Beane turned down--leading to his murder. Following the arrest of Beane and his co-conspirator, Greer was informed that CHP would take over the case, and expressed quiet elation over the news that Beane's killer was caught, right before she was handcuffed and arrested by Hanna.
