Psychotic villainess Susan Hardy

Susan Hardy (Daryl Hannah) is the hidden main villainess from the 2013 Lifetime film Social Nightmare (alternately titled, Mother; airdate August 31, 2013). She is the mother of the film's protagonist, Catherine "Cat" Hardy, who is heading off to college in a matter of months.

Like Cat, Susan was an only child, and her attempts of having another child failed, which led to her husband leaving her. Believing that Cat was all she had and fearing being alone, Susan attempted to sabotage Cat's chances of being accepted to Brown University so she would have no choice but to stay home with her. She began by posting an insulting comment regarding Emily's rejection from Brown on Cat's social media page and published a website "slut shaming" various people at Cat's school, insinuating to Cat that Emily could be behind it all.

Susan further damaged Cat's friendship with Emily, as well as her relationship with her boyfriend Daniel, by hacking into Emily's computer and placing photos of her on a site called "Honey Daddies," and telling Daniel's sister that she was adopted. Her final villainous act against Cat was hacking into her computer and changing her final English paper with a plagiarized one, resulting in her not being able to graduate with her class. Susan later acted as a caring mother to Cat and consoled her daughter after everything that had befallen her, only to later appear at Daniel's front yard and vandalize his truck. The deranged villainess also smashed Daniel's cell phone, while shouting at him to stay away from Cat

Susan was officially revealed as the villainess, as she was shown in her hoodie while committing her latest psychotic acts. Cat later figures out that her mother is behind everything after discovering the evidence on Susan's computer, along with the webcam she used to spy on her. After Cat confronts her psychotic mother, Susan went as far as to threaten to kill herself if Cat leaves her, revealing her childhood loneliness. Emily later arrived at the Hardy household after realizing that Susan had been the one behind everything, but after she enters, the evil Susan attacked Emily; tossing her against a mirror and choking her. Susan is later taken away by police, and at film's end, she is shown at a mental hospital chatting with Cat via Skype, expressing remorse over her actions.
