Sari Bodeen

The villainous Sari Bodeen

Sari Bodeen (Maureen Rooney) was a minor villainess from the 2000 Nora Roberts novel Carolina Moon, as well as the 2007 Lifetime movie adaptation. Sari was the mother of protagonist Tory Bodeen and the wife of Han Bodeen.

As shown in the opening, Han was an abusive man who often beat Tory for having psychic visions, which he interpreted as Satanic. Han was also shown to be harsh towards Sari, indicating that Han's abuse also extended to his wife. In the opening, Sari was shown regretfully turning away as Han once more beat Tory with a belt. That night, Tory's best friend Hope Lavelle was murdered and Han was considered the prime suspect. After being paid off by Hope's mother Margaret, Han moved Sari and Tory out of Progress. Sometime later, Sari became convinced by her abusive husband that Tory was indeed evil, with implications being that she joined Han in abusing her daughter as a result.

Fifteen years later, Sari was shown to have become a bitter woman, adamantly believing Han to be a good husband. When Han went on the run after assaulting his parole officer, Tory and her cousin Wade Mooney went to question her. Sari was shown to be displeased by Tory's arrival, saying she always arrived just as trouble began. She went on to defend Han's actions, accusing the officer (who she referred to as a slut) of lying about Han attacking her and claimed she had actually been beaten by a boyfriend. She also defended Han's alcoholism and clearing out of their bank account, claiming the bank had taken their money. When Tory called Han out for mistreating her mother, Sari accused Tory of being selfish and of abandoning her. When Tory countered saying that she had abandoned her by allowing Han to abuse her, Sari claimed that Tory was at fault for her husband's cruelty for never learning not to set him off. She later attacked Tory, but Tory fought her off and stormed out, leaving Sari in tears. In the end, Sari was shot and killed by Dwight Collier, Hope's real killer, when he realized she would be able to give Han an alibi to prove his innocence in his crimes.
